Commute Tip for East Bay Residents
For East Bay Commuters coming to Porter, the Line U schedule is too tight to accommodate stops at Porter Drive. One alternative these commuters might consider is the Dumbarton (DB) Express, which provides direct service between the East Bay and Stanford Research Park. The Dumbarton Express originates at the Union City BART station, also stopping at the Ardenwood Park & Ride Lot (where connections can be made with the Line U). In Research Park, the DB Express stops at the corner of Porter Drive and Hillview Ave, just a short walk from the Porter Drive site. The Dumbarton Express runs quite frequently, with 12 trips from the East Bay in the morning and 14 return trips in the afternoon. Eligible Stanford employees ride the Dumbarton Express for free with the VTA Eco Pass. More information about theDumbarton Express, including a link to our East Bay/Stanford Transit Guide, can be found at Parking & Transportation Services' Bay Area Transit page.

Touchdown areas: Work Anywhere
Introduction/Purpose
Introduction/Purpose
The goal of the Work Anywhere Task Force was to provide University management with a road map to guide eligible employees to work more flexibly:
· Between Stanford University campus locations
· Between Stanford University campus locations and home offices
· Anywhere there is a device and a connection
· Between Stanford University campus locations and home offices
· Anywhere there is a device and a connection
The University seeks to provide a standardized approach for addressing a more mobile workforce.
The Work Anywhere Toolkit team has brought together a variety of tools and techniques to enable the ability to "work anywhere". Many individuals on campus use such tools already, although for some faculty and staff that might be new, some examples include:
· Laptop computers instead of desktop computers, or a web- and email-enabled cell phone or similar device (like the iPhone), for wireless connection from off-campus or one's usual work location.
· WebEx, which allows users with a web browser to hold virtual meetings (where the "meeting" is online and attendees remain at their current work location. WebEx online meetings also support audio conference calls, file sharing, desktop sharing, and even viewing meeting attendees if their laptop or computer has a simple web cam.
· Audio-conferencing. Seeing the increased need for audio-conferencing, the team has worked to make audio-conferencing options on campus less expensive and simpler to use.
· "Touchdown spaces" and conference rooms. The team has provided recommendations for the configuration of "touchdown spaces" so that departments will have some guidelines and suggestions for what works well, and for campus conference rooms that easily accommodate audio-conferences and web meetings.
